Sports massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue, it focuses on healing your muscles and targets ‘problem areas’ to release tension and reduce soreness.
No, absolutely not! Ever had an achy back or achy shoulders from sitting at your desk all day or working in the garden? Sports massage can help with that.
Dehydration can stiffen muscle which could make the massage a bit uncomfortable so try to sip adequate amounts of water prior to your appointment. Also try not to eat a heavy meal prior to your massage.
I also drape using towels to protect your clothing from contact with the massage lotion and to ensure you are comfortable at all times.
I would recommend that you wait until the next day to exercise.
Ideally, I would recommend having a sports massage once a month to ensure lasting benefits. If I am treating an issue e.g. injury recovery, improving range of motion etc then I may need to book you in more frequently to begin with and then move to a monthly ‘maintenance’ massage.
